How does TeleRupter work?

TeleRupter™ uses the caller ID feature of your computer modem to distinguish telemarketers from other callers. When a telemarketer calls, they almost always use ID blocking so that your caller ID readout shows "UNAVAILABLE" as the caller. TeleRupter™ monitors yours calls, and when an "unavailable" call comes in, TeleRupter™ answers the phone in one ring so that you or your answering machine does not have to. It then plays a series of tones similar to the tones you hear when you dial an incorrect number before the message "The area code or telephone number as dialed is not valid...". Most telemarketing companies use computers known as predictive dialers to make calls. These predictive dialers are usually programmed to listen for the "not valid as dialed" message tones so the incorrect phone numbers can automatically be removed from their list. By playing these tones, TeleRupter™ fools predictive dialers into not calling you again. TeleRupter™ then hangs up immediately freeing your phone for legitimate use.

How is TeleRupter different from other products?

Most other anti-telemarking products are "dumb" in that they cannot distinguish between telemarketing calls and legitimate calls. These other devices simply play the tones whenever either you or your answering machine picks up the phone. There are two annoying problems created or un-addressed by such a device: First, everybody that calls you has to listen to the tones. Sometimes, legitimate callers may even think that your phone has been disconnected if they hang up too early after recognizing that familiar sound. Second, there are so many telemarking companies out there today that you cannot get off of and stay off of all their lists. Thus, your phone is will always be ringing from time-to-time with no way of avoiding those annoying interruptions. TeleRupter™ stops those calls in one ring so you never have to waste your time again.

When will TeleRupter work for you?

TeleRupter™ is perfect for anyone that has a computer that they leave running, or they don't mind leaving it running, and they have a modem that is not being used 100% of the time. (100% modem use occurs only in the following situations: the modem is used with communication software as an answering machine/fax machine, or a dialup connections is maintained 24/7.) Otherwise, your modem is free to be used for blasting telemarketers. You may use an answering machine. You may even use another modem with communication software 24/7 either in another computer or the same computer, and TeleRupter™ will work for you. TeleRupter™ is perfect for those who have high-speed DSL or cable connections, yet their computer has a factory installed voice modem that is largely unused.

Why Federal and State Do Not Call lists won't stop you from getting many types of calls

As early as 1991, legislation has existed to protect citizens from unwanted phone solicitation. The 1991 Federal Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) requires telemarketing companies to maintain lists of persons not wanting calls and to refrain from calling those people for10 years. This legislation was further reinforced by FCC telemarketing regulations adopted in 1994. But consumer advocates say that federal regulations offer little protection because injured parties must individually sue no-call violators. Many states are implementing their own Do Not Call list legislation. Ohio does not have any legislation at the present time. Furthermore, there are many exemptions to the Do Not Call list. These exemptions include charities, nonprofit organizations, market researchers, banks, insurance agencies, and debt collectors: many of the most typical type s of telemarketing intrusions.
