How to configure TeleRupter

Click on the Detect Modem button to have TeleRupter™ find your modem automatically. When it has finished, the message on the bottom of the screen should say "Found modem on COM port x" where x is the COM port that your modem is on. If the resulting message is "Modem not found", you can manually select your modem COM port from the Modem COM Port: listbox. If your computer has more than one modem, TeleRupter™ will select the modem at the lowest port number. If you would like to use a different modem, simply select your modem COM port from the Modem COM Port: listbox.

In rare cases you may be able to use a non-voice modem as long as that modem has the ability to receive caller ID. In this case uncheck the Voice Modem checkbox. TeleRupter™ will intercept telemarketers and hang up on them, however it will not be able to play the "number as dialed is not valid" tones.

TeleRupter™ can also block "PRIVATE" calls as well as "UNAVAILABLE" calls. To block "private" calls check the Block "Private" Calls checkbox.

Many telemarketers are now allowing their phone number to be displayed while using some nondescript name. You can block these numbers by adding them to the blocked-number list. To do this, click on the Manage Blocked-Number List button. A dialog box will pop up allowing you to add or delete numbers from the list. Click OK to save the changes or Cancel to leave the list unchanged.

TeleRupter™ will play a sound every time a call is blocked. To turn off the sound feature, uncheck the Play Sound checkbox.

TeleRupter™ will start automatically when Windows starts by default. If you do not want TeleRupter™ to start automatically, uncheck the StartTeleRupter when Windows Starts check box.

To start blocking telemarketers, click on the Enable Blocking button. Then click on the Hide button to hide TeleRupter™. At any time you may re-open the TeleRupter™ dialog by clicking on the TeleRupter™ icon in the SysTray, or by right-clicking on the icon in the SysTray and selecting Preferences.

To use your modem for other purposes such as sending or receiving a fax, you will need to suspend TeleRupter™. To do this simply right-click on the TeleRupter™ icon in the SysTray and select Suspend from the menu, or open up the TeleRupter™ dialog and click on the Disable TeleRupter button. To resume blocking simply right-click on the TeleRupter™ icon in the SysTray and select Resume from the menu, or open up the TeleRupter™ dialog and click on the Enable Blocking button.

To close TeleRupter™ completely, right-click on the TeleRupter™ icon in the SysTray and select Exit from the menu, or open up the TeleRupter™ dialog and click on the Exit button.
